The 10th Planet!

No, this isn’t a reference to the classic Dr. Who episode, it is a reference to a new discovery that was made this past week.  It is probably on the news everywhere, but Pluto is no longer the furthest planet in our Solar System.  This planet is yet to be named, although it has already been published and verified and it is as large as or larger than Pluto.  Furthermore, it is around 100 times further from the sun than we are, meaning it is way out there.

These are some questions you may have:

  • Are there more planets out there?
  • Who discovered it?
  • What is it made of?
  • Can I see it from home using my own telescope?

To answer these questions for yourself, listen to the PodCast interview with one of the scientists who discovered our tenth planet (from SlackerAstronomy.com):
